Project Recovery: Acupuncture in the Big Easy

March 29, 2010

What follows is an e-mail that one of the amazing acupuncturists working at Project Recovery sent regarding his experience at the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association‘s International Conference:

We are fresh from the trip to New Orleans. Louisiana hospitality was wonderful and the cajun food and ol’ time jazz was excellent.

CADA Acupuncture providers Jennifer Henry, Aydin Bengisu, and Darren Lisle attended the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA) International Conference last weekend.

The NADA Protocol (auricular acupuncture technique) has been provided as a complimentary medical treatment across the globe. Not only for addiction, but for post traumatic stress.

We first heard from two Fire Captains and many first responders to the disaster following hurricane Katrina. Their story like the ones heard from first responders after 9/11 was that  Acupuncture treatment provided them with a tremendous relief from the traumatic stress, and sleeplessness they were experiencing. Later we heard from practitioners who were on the ground in the Philippines (who experienced two consecutive typhoons a year ago), Africa, Ireland and Haiti. These were people doing extraordinary things in difficult situations.

Next, the Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation and the Atlanta support group presented on their miraculous discovery in how auricular acupuncture is helping them survive this debilitating condition.

Santa Barbara Acupuncture Associates were speakers on both Initiating and Sustaining Programs as well as Youth Trauma & ADD. For every ones information CADA represents not only one of the first acupuncture programs (Project Recovery/Detox), but also maintains the only adolescent program (Daniel Bryant Youth & Family Treatment Center) utilizing acupuncture in the country. We provided everyone with a glimpse of what a community looks like after 20 years of commitment. The audience was very receptive to what we had to offer.

Dr. Michael Smith the visionary of NADA gave the key note address on: Volunteerism. The good news is that 60 certified Acupuncture Detox Specialists were presented their certificates to provide the NADA Protocol throughout the US, Canada and Internationally.

We were completely inspired by everyone who attended.

Sincerely,
Darren Lisle L.Ac

And we are completely inspired by the continued work that these acupuncturists do for those we serve through all of our programs!  Thank you!
